Collection: Pounamu

Pounamu is the Mäori name given to New Zealand Greenstone, also called New Zealand
Jade. Highly prized in Mäori culture for its beauty, strength, and the belief that it was
sacred. Used as tools, adornment and reinforced the status of chiefs.

Pounamu is only found in the South Island of New Zealand. It is believed that the mineral
deposits in the area and the melting glaciers wash the pounamu down the rivers and
streams and that the particular mineral content make it exclusively the only place on earth where Pounamu can be found.

Therefore only Pounamu has the ability to whakapapa back to Aotearoa, making it priceless to Mãori i te Ao, the Mãori World.
